Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering

About the University of South Florida

Former U.S. Representative Samuel Gibbons was instrumental in creating the University of South Florida which was conceived and planned in 1955 but the University did not open until 1960. Initially, the school was located at Henderson Air Field which was formerly a World War II airstrip. The legislature gave the school the name the University of South Florida because it is the southernmost university in the state.

John Allen, the first president of the school was the first to build a new university as a completely separate institute of higher learning in the modern era and the administration building on campus is named for him and his wife, Grace. Today, the school is a premier research institution.

University of South Florida Admissions Requirements

In order to apply for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, applicants must submit official high school transcripts as well as official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must have completed an introductory programming course with a “B” or better. They must have a high school GPA of 2.0.

Applicants for the Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university and must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. University of South Florida Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is $105.07 per credit hour for Florida residents at all campuses is $105.07 per credit hour and $211.10 per credit hour for non-residents. Tuition for the Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering as well as the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, for Florida residents is $347.91 per credit hour. Non-residents pay between $417.90 to $431.43 depending on the campus they choose to attend.

Financial aid is available and students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA regardless of income and the form must be renewed annually. Students may be offered grants, scholarships or loans.
