Since 1966, the School of Arts & Sciences has granted the B.A./B.S. in Computer Science major where Rutgers University Scarlet Knights choose from six 120-credit tracks, such as Computer Security or Artificial Intelligence, led by Dr. Sesh Venugopal with hands-on Competitive Programming Team practice. Directed by Dr. Warren Allen, the B.S. in Information Technology and Informatics builds a 120-credit, four-year curriculum with 150-hour internships, Info Seeking Lab projects, the Prototype & Pitch Competition, and the optional Game Production Specialization. Each Fall, the B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering begins its 120-credit, ABET-accredited plan headed by Dr. Thomas Farris with opportunities to intern at Hewlett-Packard, summer in Japan, and utilize the Wireless Comm Lab.
At Hill Hall, the M.S. in Computer Science follows a 30-credit Piscataway path overseen by Dr. Thu Nguyen with Machine Learning, Vision & Graphics, Systems, or Security tracks for Rutgers University post-grads to engage in the Center of Operations Research and attend the Multi-Robot Systems Conference. About Rutgers University
Rutgers University originated on November 10, 1766, when Royal Governor William Franklin, Benjamin Franklin’s illegitimate son, signed the colonial charter for Queen’s College. In 1774, Matthew Leydt graduated with the Dutch Reformed Church’s first degree. Closed briefly during the early 19th century, Queen’s College was reopened in 1808 by Rev. Ira Condict. In 1825, it was renamed Rutgers College after the American Revolution Colonel. In 1856, the New Brunswick Theological Seminary split from its parent institution. In 1864, Rutgers benefited from the Morrill Land-Grant Act and built the Scientific School. By 1914, the College of Engineering was established. One decade later, the Rutgers University name was adopted as doctoral programs grew. In 1945, the New Jersey Legislature made Rutgers its leading state university. In 1950, Rutgers merged with the University of Newark and College of South Jersey in Camden.

Rutgers University Accreditation Details
On June 21, 2018, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSHCE) took action to extend Rutgers University’s Level VI accreditation status with commendation through the next 2026-27 evaluation under the 20th president, Dr. Robert L. Barchi, who won the National Institutes of Health’s Jacob K. Javits Award. Located 65 miles down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to review Rutgers’ 29 schools with 550+ degrees. Further, the B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering has been approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) since October 1, 1936. The Master of Business and Science in Cybersecurity was reaffirmed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in August 2017.
Rutgers University Application Requirements
Admission to Rutgers University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 22,186 of the 38,384 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for competitive 58 percent acceptance. First-year Scarlet Knights seeking the B.A./B.S. in Computer Science must have passed 16 academic high school courses or the GED. The School of Arts & Sciences requires four English and three math units. The Class of 2022 had an average 3.73 GPA. The middle 50th percentile reported SAT scores of 1280-1450. Mid-range admitted ACT scores were 27-33. Enrollment is test-optional if undergrads are over age 20 or have 12+ transferrable college credits graded at least C. The M.S. in Computer Science lists 15 prerequisite courses, such as Data Structures and Algorithm Design. Admitted master’s students present an average 3.62 GPA. Mean GRE scores are 150 verbal and 160 quantitative. The Master of Business and Science requires GPAs above 3.0 plus two years of full-time IT or law enforcement experience. Master of Information Technology and Analytics students achieve a median 3.27 GPA and 583 GMAT score.
Rutgers University has freshman deadlines of November 1st for Early Action and December 1st for Regular Action. Hopeful B.A./B.S. in Computer Science transfers must apply by February 1st. The M.S. in Computer Science has October 15th and March 1st final deadlines. MBS students are considered until June 1st, December 1st, and March 1st. Master of Information Technology and Analytics cohorts must file by March 15th or October 1st. Accordingly, complete the $70 Rutgers or Coalition Application online. Tuition and Financial Aid
