Computer Science Degree Options Offered at New York University

Based within the Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn, this department offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering.
Students can also take advantage of a combined BS/MS that can be completed in as little as four years and result in earning both the undergraduate and graduate degree simultaneously. The BS degree can be in the fields of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, while the MS degree is consistently in Computer Science. The overall accreditation for New York University is granted through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. This accreditation covers all of the programs and degree levels available through any of the colleges and schools in all three campus locations, remote study away sites and online offerings.
New York University Application Requirements
Undergraduate students seeking entrance into NYU start with completing the Common Application Online and submitting an $80 application fee. First-time college students should also provide official high school transcripts or proof of a completed GED program and earned a diploma. Standardized test scores are also needed and could include scores for the SAT or the ACT, three SAT Subject Exam scores or three AP course exam scores or three IB higher-level exam scores. An International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma can be provided in lieu of any of these as well.
Transfer students also start with the Common Application, specifying the one for Transfer Students rather than First-Year Students. The $80 application fee also applies, as do the requirements for high school transcripts plus college transcripts for any coursework already completed. Additional requirements include the Common Application College Report, verifying that the student is in good standing with his or her current or previous college and the Common Application Instructor Evaluation and letter of recommendation from a college professor or direct supervisor if the student has not taken college courses in more than a year. Standardized test scores are required for any students who have completed less than a year of college coursework prior to applying for transfer to NYU.
For graduate admissions, each college or school has its own requirements. For students seeking entrance into the Tandon School of Engineering, the first required step is to complete the online application and submit the $75 application fee. Following this, other documentation required includes official transcripts showing undergraduate degree conferral, a current resume or curriculum vitae, a statement of intent, test scores for the GRE, and two letters of recommendation.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition for students attending the Tandon School of Engineering is assessed as a lump sum of $26,416.00 for students studying full-time and carrying between 12 and 18 credit hours per semester. Students taking less than 12 credit hours pay $1660.00 per credit hour, and students taking more than 18 credit hours pay this per credit hour rate for those hours over and above the lump sum for 12 to 18 credits. Graduate students within the Tandon School of Engineering pay $1965.00 per credit hour, regardless of how many credit hours are carried per semester.
Financial Aid is available for those that need help offsetting education costs, mainly in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study grants. Students seeking financial aid should start by filling out the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Financial Aid. Students who wish to be considered for scholarships and grants from NYU directly must also fill out the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.
