At Building 1100, the Computer Information Systems Department provides a 63-credit AS in Computer Science for Mohave Community College Bighorns to learn multiple programming languages in eight- or 15-week Kingman courses like SQL Design and Database Management. Chaired by Dr. Fay Cover, the AAS in Systems Administration outlines a 65-credit 2+2 transfer track to complete Northern Arizona University’s BAS in Technology Management with 75 percent retention. On Schoology, the AAS in Computer Graphics & Web Design delivers a 60-credit, 28-month online sequence with nontraditional 24/7 courses like Digital Media and 120 internship hours. Directed by Prof. Peter Burgess, the 63-credit AAS in Cybersecurity & Network Support unlocks industry certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, with 100-level courses from Penetration Testing to Networking Essentials for $81 per credit. There’s also a Programming & Game Development Certificate and Health Information Technology Certificate.
About Mohave Community College
Mohave Community College originated in October 1970 when Mohave County citizens voted to establish a public two-year school for Northwest Arizona. In 1971, J. Leonard and Grace Neal donated their Mohave Valley land in Kingman for its first campus. In Fall 1973, MCC enrolled the inaugural class for Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degrees. The next year, MCC joined the Arizona State System of Community Colleges. On April 9, 1975, initial accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission was approved. In 1982, Mohave Community College connected its three sites with an early telecommunications network. In 1988, Colorado City became the fourth location to welcome MCC students. By 1990, Mohave was Arizona’s leading provider of GED education services. In 2008, the Chronicle of Higher Education deemed Mohave Community College the 24th fastest-growing such school.
Budgeting $45 million yearly, Mohave Community College now employs 282 faculty teaching 4,071 Bighorns from 15 Arizona counties and 13 states online, on its 160-acre Kingman campus, or at four extensions with 30+ organizations like the MC4 Computer Club. Mohave Community College Accreditation Details
On January 15, 2013, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council informed Mohave Community College that its Level I accreditation was successfully reaffirmed through 2022-23 under President Stacy Klippenstein, EdD, who accepted the POWER Grant Award. Located 1,641 miles east via Interstate 70 in Chicago, this mammoth 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to evaluate MCC’s 46 associate degrees and 34 certificates.
Mohave Community College Application Requirements
Admission at Mohave Community College is classified “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report since 100 percent of the 913 Fall 2017 entrants were openly enrolled. First-year Bighorns entering the Computer Information Systems Department must have a valid high school diploma or GED. One’s General Education Development exam must be graded at least 580 overall to qualify. Cumulative GPAs of 2.0 and higher are required to avoid probation. Taking placement exams is necessary unless freshmen submit standardized tests. Acceptable subject scores are 21 ACT and 530 SAT or higher. Otherwise, all 100-level courses mandate a minimum 74 Compass Reading and 46 Compass Algebra score. Similar Asset scores are 39-53 and 50-55. Transfers can carry over up to 45 credits graded C- or greater. International students can take ELA classes or submit a minimum 500 TOEFL pBT score.
Mohave Community College conveniently reviews applicants on a rolling basis year-round. It’s suggested that hopeful Bighorns leave 1-2 weeks for processing. Current eight-week term start dates are August 1st, October 21st, January 21st, March 24th, and May 26th. Note April 1st is the priority date for financial aid consideration though. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Mohave Community College is billing Arizona residents $81 per credit. Out-of-state students pay $283 per credit. The Western Undergrad Exchange (WUE) and the active-duty military rate is $121 per credit. Senior citizen tuition is $40.50 per credit. Undergrads pay a $1 activity fee and $6 technology fee per credit. Nelnet payment plans add a $25 fee. MCC budgets $8,309 each year for off-campus room and board. Estimated expenses include $810 for textbooks and $4,546 for personal supplies. Annual undergrad attendance equals $15,777 in-state and $20,637 out-of-state. Living at home drops pricing to $7,468 or $12,328 yearly.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Aid in Neal Campus Building 107 helps 75 percent of new full-time MCC Bighorns enroll with tuition assistance averaging $4,965 each for $521,276 combined. Institutional funds include the Arnold Scholars Award, Ernest & Blanche Johnson Memorial Scholarship, Claude Cawley Scholarship, Grace Neal Memorial Scholarship, Historic Route 66 Association Scholarship, Kenneth & Jilma Marriott Scholarship, Martha Bennett Memorial Scholarship, Oates Family Scholarship, Thomas & Gloria Askland Scholarship, Kingman Airport Authority Scholarship, and Dan Rickert Filet Scholarship. The ASAP Scholarship gifts up to $3,000 annually to AS in Computer Science majors taking 12+ credits with GPAs above 3.0. The $2,000 President’s High Honors Scholarship assists Mohave County High School graduates with 3.8 or better GPAs. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant or Work-Study Program, require FAFSA forms coded 011864.
