About Liberty University

LU was originally known as Lynchburg Baptist College when it was first established in 1971. In its first year, Liberty welcomed 154 students. By 1973, the Lynchburg Baptist Theological Seminary made its debut. The following year, Liberty saw its first graduating class. Two years later, Lynchburg Baptist College was renamed Liberty Baptist College. The institution didn’t have to wait long for official credentials as it was accredited in 1980 and in 1981 enrollment was just over 3,000 students. By 1985, the accreditation was official and Liberty began adding a number of programs to its curriculum. The rapid expansion sparked interest, and within that same year, Liberty launched its first virtual college which is still known today as Liberty University Online. Liberty University’s motto is “knowledge aflame,” which was inspired by the common goal of providing students with the necessary resources to become impactful leaders. Liberty University takes pride in being a military-friendly institution that provides flexibility and other accommodations for busy, demanding schedules.

Sprawled across 7,000 acres, Liberty University hosts more than 300 buildings that house over 200 classrooms. Liberty University Accreditation Details

Liberty University received regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The computer science department and the program received accreditation from the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Liberty University Application Requirements

First-year undergraduate students who are recent high school graduates should have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.15 and SAT scores of 950-1170 or ACT composite scores of 20-27. For consideration, students should submit an application along with a personal essay and satisfactory high school completion evidence. GED scores are acceptable and a $50 application fee.

Graduate students will have to pay a $50 application fee as well. Students should prepare official undergraduate transcripts or unofficial transcripts for specific programs. Additional documents include letters of recommendation, short purpose statements or essays, and questionnaires.

Students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels who wish to obtain their degree virtually should prepare the same forms and documents for consideration.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Residential undergraduate students can expect base tuition of $23,800. For housing and dining, students can select from a handful of housing tiers with varying prices. Dining plans also have a few unique options to choose from. Both of these are additional costs depending on which pairing is selected. Undergraduates will also have to pay an activity fee of $770 and a student health fee of $340. Liberty University offers financial aid to its students in the form of scholarships with 88% of students receiving an average assistance award of $8,952.Full-time undergraduate students participating virtually will pay $390 per hour while part-time students will pay $455.

Graduate students can expect to pay $545 per credit hour. Specialized programs will have their own differing costs, this applies to student fees as well. Graduates will also have the option to select from different dining plans. Full-time graduate students taking virtual courses will pay $595 per hour and those who are part-time will pay $615.
