In Elkhorn or Racine, the Business & Information Technology Division offers a 61-credit Computer Support Specialist A.A.S. for Gateway Technical College Redhawks to learn tech troubleshooting methods in 100-level courses like Operating Systems for CompTIA credentials. Chaired by Prof. Shari Due, the Cybersecurity Specialist A.A.S. builds a 64-credit, ACBSP-accredited curriculum preferred by Foxconn with evening or online courses and hands-on NetLab practice. About Gateway Technical College
Gateway Technical College originated in 1911 when Governor Francis McGovern signed legislation to fund America’s first two-year technical institution. That November, the Racine Continuation School welcomed an inaugural class of 325. In 1912, the Kenosha Continuation School followed suit by opening at the Frank School. In 1917, both became known as the Racine and Kenosha Vocational Schools. During World War II, the schools taught courses 24/7 to train workers for defense and manufacturing jobs. In 1959, the first Associate of Applied Science was awarded. In 1971, the two entities merged into the Kenosha-Racine-Walworth Technical Institute for District 6. The next Fall, it was renamed the Gateway Technical Institute. In 1987, the current name was chosen for GTC as instructional television courses were added. By 2012, Gateway had established its SC Johnson iMET Technology Center.
Budgeting $81.4 million yearly, Gateway Technical College now employs 671 faculty instructing 4,562 full-time and 16,611 part-time Redhawks online, on its 50-acre Kenosha campus, or at eight Wisconsin extension centers with 30+ active clubs, including an AITP Chapter, for 64 percent retention. Gateway Technical College Accreditation Details
On February 24, 2020, Gateway Technical College will host a comprehensive evaluation visit from the Higher Learning Commission on North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to renew its Level I accreditation status for 10 more years under President Bryan D. Albrecht, EdD, who earned the NACCE Entrepreneurial President of the Year Award. Located 75 miles southeast via Interstate 94 in Chicago, this grand 19-state Great Lakes Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to review GTC’s 41 associate and 125 certificate offerings. Further, the Business & Information Technology Division was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in December 2013.
Gateway Technical College Application Requirements
Enrollment at Gateway Technical College is classified “non-competitive” by Peterson’s though only 1,859 of the 2,804 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for 66 percent acceptance. First-year Redhawks seeking Business & Information Technology Division degrees must verify a high school diploma or GED/HSED credential. Wisconsin GED recipients need passing subject scores of 145 or better. Minimum cumulative GPAs above 2.0 will be required to graduate. Taking the Accuplacer placement test is normally required unless freshmen hold eligible SAT/ACT scores. Earning at least 16 on the ACT or 890 on the SAT is necessary. Preferred Accuplacer composite scores will be 237 and higher. The Gateway Promise Program requires an expected family contribution total of $3,000 or lower. International students prove English fluency by exceeding the 180 computer or 64 internet TOEFL mark. Transfers with up to 45 semester credits graded C- or greater are also welcome.
Gateway Technical College conveniently has a rolling admission process year-round. Priority dates are July 1st for Fall, October 1st for Spring, and January 1st for Summer starts. Applications not finished by November 15th, March 15th, and August 15th respectively are deactivated. Orientation registration deadlines are July 20th and December 14th. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Gateway Technical College is billing in-state students $136.50 per credit. Wisconsin residents pay $410 per class or $1,638 each full-time semester. Non-resident prices increase $68.25 per credit to $204.75. Out-of-state tuition is $614 per course and $2,457 each 12-credit term. Undergrads cover the $7.51 activity fee, $5 technology fee, and $4.50 lecture fee per class. Online courses add a $10 distance learning fee per credit. Prior Learning Assessments are $50 apiece. Annual full-time tuition and fees average $4,454 in-state or $6,467 out-of-state. The Computer Support Specialist A.A.S. has a cost estimate of $10,095. The Cybersecurity Specialist A.A.S. is priced $10,525 overall. Software Developer A.A.S. cohorts spend $9,995 total.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in the Administration Center helps 74 percent of new full-time GTC Redhawks find tuition assistance averaging $5,406 apiece for $1.62 million combined.
