In Olive White Garvey Hall, the College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education grants the B.S. in Computer Science & Information Systems to Friends University undergrads seeking hands-on labs programming tech applications. Directed by Dr. Dick Teter, the 124-credit traditional sequence covers topics from Web Development to Networking Principles and Database Management at a 10:1 student-faculty ratio. On Moodle, transferring adults pursue a similar B.S. in Computer Information Systems led by Prof. Justin Eichorn with at least 63 online credits like Virtual Machines. Since Fall 2017, the M.S. in Cyber Security has been Kansas’ only private program delivering synchronous e-learning on computer defense. About Friends University
Friends University originated in September 1887 when Dr. W.B. Hendryx started Garfield University with an inaugural class of 500 to honor our 20th President. Closed in 1893, it was revived on March 31, 1898, when James Davis acquired Garfield at the Kansas Yearly Meeting of Friends. The Quakers recruited Edmund L. Stanley to welcome its first 52 learners into Christian liberal arts education that Fall. In 1930, Friends transferred governance to an independent Board of Trustees at the 18-building Wichita campus near Cessna. Friends University Accreditation Details
On July 16, 2012, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) approved Friends University’s reaffirmation via the AQIP Pathway for seven-year Level III accreditation until 2019 under its 14th president, Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, who received a Women’s Leadership Development Institute Award. Located 706 miles northeast via Interstate 35 in Chicago, the Central States accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to check standards compliance for Friends’ 49 baccalaureate, nine master’s, and 11 certificate options from Mayetta to Lenexa or online. On June 1, 2017, the Business & Information Technology Department became a member of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Friends University also received the National Security Agency’s Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAD/CD) designation in March 2016.
Friends University Application Requirements
Attending Friends University is deemed “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 423 of the 881 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for only 48 percent acceptance. First-year Falcons flying into the B.S. in Computer Science & Information Systems should finish a suitable high school curriculum. Only GED content exams scored 410 or higher are considered equivalent. Freshmen need a minimum overall GPA of 1.5, but the median is 3.29. Undergrads under age 23 must reach at least 15 on the ACT or 850 on the New SAT. Online B.S. in Computer Information Systems transfers must have collected 15 to 88 previous college credits. GPAs of 1.8 to 2.0 are reviewed provisionally with no transfer courses below “D.” International scholars must achieve a 63 TOEFL iBT mark or “B” grade in English Composition. The College of Graduate and Professional Studies seeks online master’s entrants with regionally accredited four-year degrees. The M.S. in Cyber Security stipulates 11 NSA Core prerequisites like Data Analysis, Programming, and Introductory Cryptography. Professional MBA cohorts could waive the BSAD 500 Foundations course with business bachelor’s. Cumulative GPAs over 2.75 are preferred with no GRE/GMAT requirement.
Friends University conveniently has rolling admission year-round with one priority freshman deadline of March 15th. Deposits are only refundable until May 1st though. Non-U.S. residents must leave 60 or more days before the semester starts too. Accordingly, interested students file the Friends Application online for $35 ($50 if international or graduate). Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Friends University is charging full-time B.S. in Computer Science & Information Systems majors $13,983 by term or $27,965 annually. Undergrads pay the $180 activity fee, $100 technology fee, and $170 accident plan fee. Part-time day courses incur $932 per credit. Living at the Wichita campus’ dorms like Green Hall adds $3,800 for housing. Full meal plans for Casado Center are $4,180 yearly. Friends budgets $1,500 for textbooks and $4,000 for personal needs. Annual bachelor’s attendance is traditionally $40,805 on-site or $33,065 at home. Online B.S. in Computer Information Systems study is reduced to $430 per credit. The M.S. in Cyber Security bills $631 per credit or $23,347 total. Master of Management Information Systems and Professional MBA students both spend $631 per credit for $20,430 overall.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Davis Administration Hall gifts $12.64 million combined for 80 percent of Friends Falcons to soar with a median $13,253 package. University funds include the Tower Scholarship, Promise Award, Gerald E. Litherland Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Alumni Scholarship, Ministerial Scholarship, Church Match Scholarship, Latino Leaders Scholarship, Miss Teen Kansas Scholarship, and Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. The Wichita Community Foundation bestows nearly $150,000 through 20+ assistance programs like the Gregory Fleming Memorial Scholarship and Forget Me Not Scholarship. Former military receives Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits plus a 10 percent discount. FAFSA applications coded 001918 determine Federal Pell or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant coverage. Borrowing need-based Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans is limited to $31,000. The IT Department posts paid Federal Work-Study jobs up to 25 hours weekly. State-based assistance, including the Kansas Comprehensive Grant, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, and Military Service Scholarship, has an April 1st deadline.
