Since 2013, the Computer Science & IT Division has granted a $10,000 Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems Technology for Eastern Florida State College A.S. transfers to finish 120 total credits in five paths: Cybersecurity, Data Science, Networking Systems, Software Development, or Project Management. Chaired by Prof. Stephen Johnson, the Associate in Science in Computer Information Technology builds a 60-credit, SACS-accredited curriculum for three specializations: Database Administration, IT Help Desk, or Management Information Systems. Fulfilling Oracle certification, the Associate in Science in Computer Programming and Analysis has a 60-credit, 24-month sequence split into four options: Mobile App Development, Visual Basic Programming, Web Applications, or Advanced Programming. The Associate in Science in Network Systems Technology requires 60 credits of 1000-level online or Cocoa courses like Digital Forensics before the UCF Direct Connect track.
About Eastern Florida State College
Eastern Florida State College originated in September 1960 when Dr. Bruce Wilson welcomed an inaugural class of 768 to Cocoa High School for Brevard Junior College courses. In 1963, it merged with Carver Junior College to desegregate education for African-American students. In 1966, enrollment at its new Cocoa Campus surpassed 4,000 for the first time. In 1970, the consolidated school was renamed Brevard Community College. By 1975, Brevard entered a NASA partnership with the Florida Institute of Technology and University of Central Florida. In 2000, Brevard’s SACS accreditation was amended to include online eLearning options. From 2007 to 2010, participation in lower-division distance courses skyrocketed 51 percent. On July 1, 2013, the Florida Legislature authorized Brevard Community College to award four-year degrees. That Fall, it became Eastern Florida State College and started a Bachelor of Applied Science program. In 2015, EFSC launched its Cybersecurity Lab.
Generating a $1.1 billion economic impact, Eastern Florida State College now employs 1,200 staff serving 15,931 Titans in the 28-member Florida College System online or at its four Space Coast campuses with 30+ organizations like Digital Media Club for 47 percent graduation. In 2016, EFSC won the Campus Compact Community Engagement Educator Award. In 2019, Eastern Florida received the Chancellor’s Award for Promising Practices. Eastern Florida State College Accreditation Details
On October 22, 2013, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees decided to reaffirm the Level II accreditation status at Eastern Florida State College through the next 2022-23 evaluation under President James H. Richey, J.D., who accepted the Chancellor’s Award for High-Tech Apprenticeship. Located 487 miles up Interstate 75 in Decatur, Georgia, this esteemed 11-state Southeast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to review EFSC’s 35 associate, 24 bachelor’s, 68 certificate, and three diploma options. Further, Eastern is approved by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
Eastern Florida State College Application Requirements
Enrollment at Eastern Florida State College is classified as “non-competitive” by Peterson’s because 100 percent of the 6,438 Fall 2018 applicants were accepted. First-year Titans seeking the AS in Computer Information Technology and similar degrees need a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Only the Early Admission Program admits 11th and 12th graders with cumulative GPAs above 3.0. Degree-seeking freshmen with 2.0 or higher GPAs are welcome. Minimum progress standards require passing 67 percent of credits attempted. College-ready placement test scores are often mandatory. Undergrads with 17 English, 19 Math, or better ACT scores qualify for waivers. Same goes for students with minimum 440 Reading and 440 Math SAT marks. Preferred Accuplacer scores are 83+ for Writing and 72+ for Algebra. Bachelor of Applied Science cohorts must already hold a compatible A.S. degree of 60-65 credits. Lower-division course prerequisites, including Calculus I and C++ Programming, must be graded C or greater. International learners should achieve at least 5.5 IELTS or 61 TOEFL iBT scores.
Eastern Florida State College has rolling admission to admit Titans thrice each semester. For Fall, deadlines are currently July 22nd, August 26th, and September 23rd. Incoming Spring cohorts must file before November 18th, January 21st, or February 18th. Priority dates for BAS in Computer Information Systems Technology majors are July 1st, November 12th, and April 6th. The Early Admission deadline is April 16th each year. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Eastern Florida State College is charging in-state Associate in Science students $104 per credit. Lower-division courses have non-resident tuition of $405 per credit. The Bachelor of Applied Science costs Floridians $128 per credit. Non-resident BAS in Computer Information Systems Technology majors pay $508 per credit. Late registration fees incur $50 per semester. Undergrads cover the $35 proctor fee, $20 graduation fee, $10 Wi-Fi access fee, and $40 parking fee. EFSC budgets $6,968 yearly for off-campus room and board. Students should leave $1,600 for textbooks and $3,410 for miscellaneous each year. Annual attendance averages are $14,474 in-state and $21,717 out-of-state. Living with parents/guardians makes the totals drop to $7,506 and $14,749 respectively.
