In Telecomm Hall, Capitol Technology University grants the 62-credit Computer and Cyber Operations Engineering AAS led by Dr. Garima Bajwa for introducing undergrads to digital infrastructure needs with League of Legends practice. Chaired by Dr. Nayef Abu-Ageel, the Computer Science BS boast 82 percent three-month job placement after a 120-credit plan of traditional courses like Java Programming at a 12:1 ratio. Available 50 percent online, the 120-credit Cyber and Information Security BS organized by Dr. William Butler utilizes the Digital Forensics Lab for CompTIA Security+ exam prep. The Mobile Computing BS has trained app developers for Honeywell, Microsoft, Apple, HSBC Bank, and others with a 121-credit curriculum headed by Dr. Hashem Mehdizadeh Tabrizi. Starting Summer 2018, the Computer Science MS provides 30 credits of asynchronous Canvas courses in Data Science and Software Engineering concentrations. Administered by Dr. Richard Baker, the 33-39 credit Cyber Analytics MS trains information scientists with median pay of $114,520 for safeguarding networks. The United States’ first Cybersecurity DSc advances scholars through a 66-credit, NSA-aligned sequence advised by Dr. Ian McAndrew with dissertation research. Other options are the Technical MBA, Technology Ph.D., and Web Development Certificate.
About Capitol Technology University
Capitol Technology University originated in 1927 when Armed Forces veteran and Marconi Gold Medal winner Eugene H. Rietzke opened the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute. In 1932, it started residential courses on Washington DC’s 16th Street NW near the White House for hands-on labs. In 1946, it earned one of the first accreditations from the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development. Renamed in 1964, the Capitol Institute of Technology was licensed for four-year BS degrees in 1966. Fully accredited in 1976, it acquired the present 52-acre Prince George’s County campus in Maryland seven years later. By 1997, Capitol digitalized the first Internet courses and added master’s degrees. Given NSA Center of Academic Excellence status in 2003, Capitol Technology University began the hybrid Cybersecurity DSc with three Laurel residencies in 2010. Endowed for $5.3 million, Capitol now teaches 843 students, including Computer Science BS majors. PayScale named Capitol Maryland’s fourth-best college with 88 percent STEM degrees. The “Military Friendly” school also ranked 69th for computer programming and 185th for computer engineering nationally on College Factual.
Capitol Technology University Accreditation Details
On November 17, 2016, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) received the Periodic Review Report from Capitol Technology University to keep Level VI accreditation current until 2021 under its eighth president, Dr. Bradford L. Sims, who received the ACE Institute for Chief Academic Officers Certificate. Located 125 miles up Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, this six-state Northeast Corridor accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to objectively review Capitol’s three associate, 18 bachelor’s, nine master’s, five doctoral, and 16 certificate options. Specifically, the Computational Systems Department has been approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) since October 2008. Capitol Technology University was reaffirmed by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) through December 2023 too.
Capitol Technology University Application Requirements
Starting at Capitol Technology University is classified “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 309 of the 384 Fall 2017 applicants were successful for 80.4 percent acceptance. Freshmen in non-engineering programs like the Computer Science BS need cumulative GPAs above 2.2 in high school preparation. Three years of Math plus two years each of Science and Social Science are requisite. Advanced Placement courses graded “3” or higher will transfer. At a minimum, first-years must score 800 on the SAT or 17 on the ACT Composite. Undergrads already holding 15+ credits graded “C” or greater are test-optional. Unaccredited credits are reviewed on a probationary status requiring 2.0 GPAs in students’ first Capitol semester. The Office of Admissions typically seeks post-grads exceeding 3.0 bachelor’s GPAs. The Computer Science MS has prerequisites in Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures, and Calculus. Doctoral candidates for the Cybersecurity DSc need five years of industry experience atop a relevant STEM master’s degree. Passing the CISSP or CISM certification exam is also mandated.
Capitol Technology University generally has rolling admission accepting students every eight- or 16-week semester. However, international entrants meeting the 550 TOEFL pBT mark only apply until July 1st for Fall, November 1st for Spring, and April 1st for Summer. The Capitol Scholars Program has a deadline of March 1st. The Cybersecurity DSc also cuts off applicants on July 1st and October 1st yearly. For 2018-19, Capitol Technology University is billing full-time Computer Science BS majors $12,354 per semester or $24,708 annually. Part-time campus tuition costs $813 per credit.
